Abstract

PREVALENCE OF ANAEMIA IN WOMEN OF REPRODUCTIVE AGE GROUP IN LUCKNOW DISTRICT AND SURROUNDING AREAS

Abstract

Objective: To study and assess the prevalence of anaemia in women of Reproductive age group (18 – 45 yrs) who attended Central Research Institute of Unani Medicine, Basaha, Lucknow, India during 2019-2020. Study Design: Cross-sectional study. Study Area: Lucknow district and surrounding areas. Study Subjects: A total of 333 women of Reproductive age group. Introduction: Anaemia is a worldwide problem with highest prevalence in developing countries. It is a major public health problem in India. It is defined as low Haemoglobin concentration in the blood. In women it is less than 12 g/dl. Methods: All the female patients of Reproductive age group attending OPD for any health problem were included in the study. Study period was of one year i.e. from April 2019 to March 2020. Blood sample was collected. Haemoglobin estimation was done by cyanmethemoglobin method. Hb criteria were taken according to WHO standard. Statistical analysis used: Statistical analyses were done using percentage and Chi-square test. Results: The prevalence of anaemia in our study group of females was about 81.68%. Mild, Moderate and Severe anaemia was present in 69.12%, 27.57% and 3.31% respectively. Conclusion: Anaemia was significantly higher in mild category. Prophylaxis of Anaemia should be done by educating patients about nutrition and dietary supplementation.
