AYURVEDIC MANAGEMENT OF CHRONIC INFECTIVE DIABETIC FOOT ULCER – A CASE REPORT

Abstract A diabetic foot ulcer is an open sore or wound that occurs in the foot in approximately 15 percent of patients with diabetes and among them around 6 percent need hospitalized care for ulcer related complications. The devastating effects of hyperglycemia on host defence are brought about by ischemia, multidrug resistant bacteria spreading infection through the diabetic limb. Hence timely and effective management of the ulcer is mandatory. A patient of infected diabetic foot ulcer aged 42 years presented in IPD at SDM Ayurveda Hospital, Udupi with itching, pain and blackish discolouration since 1 month. The patient was treated with Parisheka (therapeutic wash) and Avachoornana (dusting) for 21 days following which the ulcer healed completely. Keywords: Diabetic ulcer, Infection.
