Abstract

EFFECT OF AYURVEDIC MEDICINE IN THE MANAGEMENT OF PAMA (SCABIES): A CASE STUDY

Abstract

Ayurveda is a sacred medical science which guides us about all the aspects of life. Skin disease has a high prevalence throughout the World. Scabies is an acute contagious disease which can spread quickly through close physical contact. In Ayurveda all skin diseases are described under 18 types of Kustha (Various skin diseases), which are further divided into ‘Maha kushtha’ and ‘Kshudra kustha’. ‘Pama’ is comes under ‘Kshudra Kustha’. It is a pitta-kapha predominant disorder characterized by many small pitika (papule formation), kandu (Itching) and srava (discharge) etc. ‘Pama’ can be co-relate with ‘Scabies’ in contemporary Science according to sign and symptoms. Scabies is extremely common in children and young adult age groups. The present case study deals with a 29 years old female patient having complaints of severe itching over wrist, elbow, armpit, waist, buttock and area between the fingers with rashes since 2 months, and itchiness aggravated at night time. This case is diagnose as ‘Pama’ (Scabies) and Ayurvedic treatment was done for 1 month which showed good result.
