Dr. Jailalita* and Dr. Ajay Kumar Gupta

Abstract

Skin is outermost covering of our body having immense importance including cosmetic value. A break in the continuity of the covering epithelium, either skin or mucous membrane due to molecular death is called Ulcer. In Ayurvedic literature, Dushta Vrana may be correlated with Non healing ulcer. A non healing ulcer or chronic wound (Dushta Vrana) is a wound that does not heal in an orderly set of stages and in a predictable amount of time. Acharya Sushruta has given an elaborate description of Dushta Vrana and its management. The management of Vrana are some of the oldest subjects discussed in medical literature. Among the wide variety of treatment protocol mentioned for Dushta Vrana like pichu, rasakriya, lepa, etc., application of Chandan padmkaadi taila for Ropana of the Dushta Vrana is one among the sixty Upakramas for Vrana. A case report of a patient suffering from Dushta Vrana (non healing ulcer) treated successfully by local application of Chandanpadmkaadi taila has been presented here.
