AYURVEDIC PERSPECTIVE OF PSORIASIS: A CASE STUDY

Abstract Psoriasis is a chronic immune-mediated inflammatory condition mainly affecting the skin and joint. Its prevalence in India is about 0.44–2.8 percent. Males are being affected by psoriasis two times more common than females. In Ayurveda, all skin diseases are grouped under a broad heading of Kushtha Roga. Eka kushtha is one of such diseases explained under the heading of Kshudra Kushtha(minor skin ailments). Ayurvedic management in chronic psoriasis involve medicaments like some combination of herbal choorna. With medicine virechana, takradhara, siravedha, awagah, nadi-sweda, also advised. After proper vaman and virechana, Arogyavardinivati 2 tab twice a day and karanjaadi tail applied locally for 3 months. Eka kushtha (Psoriasis) though difficult to treat, but if proper diagnosis is made at proper time, it can give significant relief. In present case, the treatment was found very effective in treating Psoriasis. There was 40-50% relief in signs and symptoms after Shodhana Therapy and complete relief after Oral medications.
