Abstract One of the most common cardiovascular diseases is Myocardial Infarction (MI) which is commonly known as heart attack. This disease condition manifests as a result of disrupted blood supply and oxygen to the myocardium. This present study investigated the cardioprotective effect of combined methanol extracts of Cucumin longa, Allium sativa and Zingiber officinale (herbal formula-TGG) in isoprenaline induced myocardial infarction in albino rats. Sixty albino rats were randomly divided into six (6) groups of twelve rats per group. Group 1 served as the normal control, group 2 was the negative control (administered 85mg/kg of isoprenaline only), group 3 served as the positive control (pretreated with 2mg/kg carvedilol for 28 days, group 4 and 5 were pretreated with 200mg/kg and 400mg/kg body weight of the herbal formulation (TGG) respectively for 28 days. Myocardial infarction was induced in the rats using subcutaneous injection of 85mg/kg Isoprenaline (ISO) for two consecutive days (26th and 27th) at 24hours interval. The results showed that isoprenaline significantly (p Keywords: Myocardial Infarction, Troponin I, Carvedilol, Herbal formulation, Isoprenaline [Full Text Article] [Download Certificate] |
