THE RANDOMISED COMPARATIVE STUDY OF VIDANGADI LOHA AND GUD HARITAKI CHURNA IN MANAGEMENT OF KAPHAJ PANDU WITH SPECIAL REFERENCE TO IRON DEFICIENCY ANEMIA

Abstract Worldwide Iron Deficiency Anemia is a significant problem and especially in developing countries. It is wide spread yet most neglected micronutrient deficiency disorder among children and adult of all economical class. Anemia is defined as a decreased count of red blood cells in blood. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), hemoglobin (Hb) of less than 13.0 g/dL in an adult male, less than12.0 g/dL in adult non pregnant female, and less than 11.0 g/dL in pregnant female should be considered as evidence of anemia. Pandu is Rasapradoshaj vyadhi in which Rasa dhatu get vitiated by doshas and because of that all Raktadi dhatus get Nissarattwas acharya sushrut say “raktam jeew iti sthiti”, because of heen saar Rasa Rakta in body clinical symptoms like Pandutwa, Daurbalya, Aayasen shwas krichata, Hriday spandan etc. In objective criteria Hb% was more increased in vidangadi loha group .it was 45.72% in group A and 14.28% in group b. The result was significant at p < .05 for Nakh netra panduta, Shwas, Madhurasyta, Kasa, Prasek and Hb%; while the result was not significant for Gauravta, Bhrama, Shavyathu, TLC and RBC.
