Abstract
Lawsonia inermis L. is usually use to treat widely pathologies in traditional medicine in Morocco. The aim of this study is to assess the safety effect of the aqueous and ethanolic extract on mice and sedative effect after oral administration. The results showed that acute intra peritoneal administration of extract of seeds and roots were DL50 = 21.06 mg/kg and 88.80 mg/kg respectively whereas the value of DL50 after oral administration of the same extract were 115 mg/kg and 177.70 mg/kg. Leaves extracts was no find with toxicity effect. In addition Lawsonia inermis L. induced sedative effect in animal close to that observed with clobazam. This study confirmed the non toxic effect of extract of leaves of Lawsonia inermis, and showed that roots and seeds extract are toxic. The plant has a sedative effect. This study may explain the rational use of leaves in the traditional medicine.
