THE IMPACT ON QUALITY OF LIFE OF PATIENTS ON HEMODIALYSIS: A LITERATURE REVIEW

Abstract
Quality of life can be defined as the physiological, physical, social and
spiritual domains of health that are influenced by a person's
experience, beliefs, and perceptions. Dialysis is a procedure where
dialysis machine and a special filter called artificial kidney are used to
clean the blood.[1] Renal insufficency is poor function of kidney due to
reduction in blood flow caused by renal artery disease. On
hemodialysis, patient adjust their life plan according to their treatment.
They should be aware about losing their health and consequences.
Quality of life of patients can examine by two aspects including kidney
specific quality of life and general quality of life. A better quality of
life contributes to a longer lifespan and better response to the particular
treatment. Also dialysis patient should receive a particular comprehensive care, diet, motor
rehabilitation and pshychological counselling which improves the illness acceptance.[2]
