TO EVALUATE THE EFFECT OF MARMA CHIKITSA IN THE MANAGEMENT OF PRE-HYPERTENSION - A CONCEPTUAL STUDY

Abstract

Cardiovascular diseases such as hypertension will be the largest causeof death and disability in India by 2020. Prevalence of hypertension isincreasing day by day worldwide. Presently more than 1 billion peopleare affected by hypertension. In 2000 About 26.4% of the world adultpopulation had hypertension and 29.2% were expected to have thiscondition by 2025. Elevated blood pressure affects 1 billion individualsand causes estimated 10.4 million deaths per year. In order tounderstand pre-hypertension, further research is needed. Though a lotof potent antihypertensive drugs are available today but none of themis free from untoward adverse effects. Mainly in elderly populationpoorly tolerates these drugs. These adverse effects are mainly found inelderly population due to poor tolerance power for these drugs. The management ofhypertension/ prehypertension by drug alone is not fruitful. The need of the management bypre-hypertension is the ultimate goal. It can be achieved by concept of Marma Chikitsa. It is anatural healing power of vital points in the body. These are vulnerable zones of body. Thepresent article deals with to explore the concept of Marma Chikitsa in the management ofPre-hypertension.
