Abstract
Introduction: Chronic liver disease (CLD) is one of the leading causes
of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Chronic liver disease is a
worldwide problem estimating 2.95% of total deaths, (according to
WHO 2017). Aims and objectives: The study was done to assess
knowledge and expressed practice regarding prevention of liver failure
among chronic liver disease patients. Material and methods: A cross
sectional study design was used and 97 participants were selected who
were diagnosed with Chronic liver disease through consecutive
sampling technique from General Medicine and Neurology
Departments NEIGRIHMS, Shillong. Data was collected by using self
administered questionnaire and analysed by using descriptive and inferential statistics.
Results and discussion: Out of 97 participants with chronic liver disease, 54 (55.7%) had
inadequate knowledge and 53 (54.7%) had poor expressed practice. The mean knowledge
score was found to be 5.49 with a SD 1.86 and expressed practice score was found 8.60 with
SD 2.18. Significant association was found between knowledge with educational level( p =
