Mina Sameer Abdulrazaq Almahfudh* and Intisar Salim Pity

.

Abstract

Introduction: The lymph node is a bean-shaped lymphatic system's organ and adaptive immune system. As it is functioning as a filter for any foreign particles (like cancer cells), it is necessary for the immune system to function properly. Lymph node pathologies propose an important diagnostic hint to the etiology of the underlying condition. Aim: To study the lymph node pathologies in Duhok pathology centers and characterized neoplastic lesions of the lymph node. Materials and Method: A descriptive cross-sectional study conducted in Duhok / Iraq and enrolled all the cases received in Histopathology Departments Central General and Vin Private Laboratories in Duhok-Iraq for 13 years (from 1st January 2008 to 31st December 2020). The descriptive analysis focused on frequencies and percentages, the Chi-square test was used to determine the mean differences between groups, and the p-value of less than 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: A total of 529 patients were enrolled, one month to 79 years with a mean age of 38.25 (±22.89) years. Neoplastic lesions formed the predominant lymph node pathology 353 (66.6%), of which 44.75% were metastatic. A significantly higher prevalence of neoplastic lesions among males. The highest percent of neoplastic in the group (61-70) and the highest percent of nonneoplastic in the group (11-20) with the significant association. A significant association was observed between neoplastic types and age groups. Conclusion: Age and gender significantly affect the types of lymph node lesions and the neoplastic subtypes.

Keywords: Duhok, Iraq, lymph node, neoplastic.
