Abstract

The present study was aimed to analysis of phytochemical constituents and antimicrobial activity of Papaver Somniferum L. Phytochemicals are a rich source of antioxidant such as alkaloids and flavonoids, flavonoids are regarded as one of the most wide spread groups of natural constituents found in plants. Phyto means Plants, these chemical compounds produced by plants, Generally helps in resist fungi, bacteria, and plant virus infections and also consumption by insects and other animals. The alcoholic extract and water extract of seeds were subjected to Phytochemical Screening. This analysis of seed extract indicates the presence of various phytochemical constituents like alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, glycosides, saponins and terpinods. The antimicrobial activity of poppy seed the aqueous decoction of poppy seed exhibited weak antibacterial activity against E. coli, yeast & molds, pseudomonas etc. Phenolic contents have gained much attention, Due to their antioxidant activities, which potentially have beneficial implication for human health. Poppy seeds various varieties primarily grown for pharmaceutical use. For centuries poppy seeds have made a significant contribution both in the food industry and the medical & pharmaceutical industry, it can be used as drug for curing various disease.
