Abstract

Chronic wounds impose a significant burden to the individual, the healthcare system and the society as a whole. In a recent review prevalence of ulcer is 4.5 per 1000 population. Healing of ulcer is a complex process in which both systemic and local factors play an important role. In spite of developments in modern surgical field the treatment for chronic non-healing ulcers are not always satisfactory. Sixty Upakrama [therapeutic procedures] with specific indication have been explained for the management of Vrana in Sushrutha Samhita. Application of Kalka [paste] is one among them which is specifically indicated in removal of slough and attaining Vrana Shodhana. Application of Kalka as a topical applicant in Dusta Vrana can be a simple, cost effective treatment. Hence an effort is made to study the effect of Nimbadi Kalka in the management of Dusta Vrana.
