*Dr. Madhuri S. Chakote and Dr. Gadve B. N.
. Abstract Severe low back pain radiating to the toes of one or both of the lower limbs is one of the commonest problems in society today. Low back pain affects men a little more than women and is most frequent in the working population. Among its various causes the most commonly appearing one is sciatica. Sciatica is condition in which pain starts from low back and radiates to leg mostly unilateral but in some, it may be bilateral also. In Ayurvedic perspectives its features resembles to those of Gridhrasi. In Ayurvedic classics two types of Gridhrasi have been described namely Vataja and Vata-kaphaja. Ayurveda categorized Gridhrasi as one of diseases caused by vitiation of Vata (one of the principle dosha in the body, responsible for the movement and functionality of the body). Sometimes even Kapha vitiation along with Vata (vata kaphaj) also causes Gridhrasi. There is only conservative treatment giving short-term relief in pain or surgical intervention with side-effect. There is need to find out quick relief from pain in today's era as it affects physical as well as mental and social life of patients. So the current study has been taken.
