Abstract

CONCEPTUAL STUDY OF OJA WITH SPECIAL REFERENCE TO OJADUSHTI RELATED DISEASES

Abstract

Ayurveda considered Oja as a vital entity of human body which help in nourishment. Oja is the essence of all the Sapta Dhatus from Rasa to Shukra, on which the strength (bala) of the body depends. That means, it is the finest part of all the Sapta Dhatus. In Ayurveda the existence of Oja has been accepted from intrauterine life, during intrauterine life the Oja is unstable especially in the eighth month of the fetus. This is a reason that due to unstable of Oja eight month pregnancy is very complicated. So the importance of Oja is from intrauterine life till the Death. Vyadhikshamatwa and bala are depends on oja, any vitiation in oja leads to disease. Oja is important in diagnosis of disease and its treatment. Ojadushti is one of the causes of low immunity and Nidan parivarjan that is removal of cause is the main part of treatment of any disease.so finding and removing the factors causing oja dushti is important. The effect of oja kshay is very severe i.e. death. So protection of oja is also important. Oja kshay is caused due to any injury or trauma (abhighata), Malnourishment or impaired metabolism (kshaya), Anger (kopa), Excessive thinking (dhyana), Grief (shoka), Vigorous physical work or exertion (shrama), Voracious appetite (kshudha) all these factors are avoided for protection of oja. Due to life style changes the sign and symptoms of Ojadushti has to be assessed in every patient, as everybody is going through some sort of stress, and early diagnosis can prevent the hazardous effects. The disease like Prameha (Diabetes), Pandu roga (Anemia) and Rajyakshma (Pulmonary tuberculosis) can be prevented. The purpose of Ayurveda is to maintain the health of healthy person so there is need to prevent the oja from vitiation. For protection of oja one can use Ayurvedic principle like Ayurvedic remedies, changes in Aahar and vihar according to Rutucharya and DIncharya.
