. Abstract Herbal therapies are commonly used to treat or manage various diseases including diabetes mellitus. Pentaclethra macrophylla Benth (Fabaceae) has been a popular remedy for various diseases such as antitumor, antimicrobial, purgative, analgesic, antiseptic, antipyretic and anti-inflammatory and a major ingredient in the recipes of Eastern Nigeria (Igbo speaking tribe). The current study was intended to evaluate the effect of methanol extract of stem bark of Pentaclethra macrophylla on the liver and kidney bio-makers of diabetic rats. The phytochemical analysis as well as the acute toxicity study of the stem bark was also carried out following standard procedures.
