Abstract

COCRYSTALS: A COMPLETE REVIEW ON EVALUATION PARAMETERS OF PHARMACEUTICAL COCRYSTAL

Pooja Giradkar* and Swaroop Lahoti

.

Abstract

Cocrystals are the multicomponent framework in which one part is an Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API) and another is known as conformer. A Coformer form of a compound having a particular molecular conformation. The selection of conformer is the most challenging step for successful development of the pharmaceutical cocrystal. Recently the Pharmaceutical cocrystals are gaining attention because of its ability to modify the properties of API without significant chemical changes with advantage of IPR protection. In development of pharmaceutical cocrystal, its evaluation is crucial and most important step. These review gives the comprehensive information of various methods and techniques for the evaluation of cocrystal which will be helpful for the researchers. In the literature various methods like Differential Scanning Calorimetry, Powder X-ray Diffraction, Fourier-Transform Infrared, Raman Spectroscopy, Thermogravimetric analysis, solubility and dissolution study, Stability studies, polarized light microscopy, Terahertz Time-Domain Spectroscopy, Solid-State Nuclear Magnetic Resonance and the other methods are mentioned.

Keywords: Cocrystal, API, Coformer.
