BENEFITS OF MEDHYA RASAYANA IN AYURVEDA

Abstract

Rasayana is the means of obtaining the best qualities of body cells and tissues and is able to defeat aging and disease. Rasayana drug as adjuvant to ongoing medicines can also provide encouraging result and improve quality of life of patients. Medhya rasayan provides marked improvement in the quality of life of patients. Medhya rasayana is undoubtedly one of the best most effective medicinal therapies in Ayurveda for achieving and maintaining good mental and nervous system health. Medhya Rasayana was used to improve intellectual ability, intelligence memory and cognitive functions. Rasayana the first chapter of the chikitsasthana deals with one of the most important specialties of Ashtanga [eight branches] Ayurveda, namely, Rasayana Tantra. Rasayana means rejuvenation and anti-aging therapies in Ayurveda. It also includes all measures for geriatric healthcare and immunity enhancement. Rasayana essentially denotes medicinal nutrition, rejuvenation, longevity, immune-enhancing and geriatric heath care. MedhyaRasayanaYog is one of such drug which is said to be Medhahitam, Rasayana, Vrsya, and acts as mood elevators and promotes the sense of well being. MedhyaRsayana are Medhya, Balya, Dhatupushtikara, brimhaniya, Jivaniya, and Agnivardhaka. The drugs may act as adoptogens, antioxidants, immunostimulents, antistress, nootrophics, antidepressants, or may have other geriatrics benefits. Hence it was concluded that Medhya RasayanaYog can be used as an alternative treatment to manage mental disorders.
