ANTIBACTERIAL ACTIVITY OF ETHANOL AND ACETONE EXTRACT OF PILADANG LEAF (SOLENOSTEMON SCUTELLARIOIDES (L.) CODD AGAINST STAPHYLOCOCCUS AUREUS AND PSEUDOMONAS AERUGINOSA
Tika Afriani* and Rahmayulis
. Abstract Ethanol and acetone leaf extract of Piladang (Solenostemon scutellarioides (L.) Codd) were investigated for their antibacterial activities against Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa using diffusion methods. Test results for flavonoids and phenolics of 96% ethanol and acetone leaf extract of piladang (Solenostemon scutellarioides (L.) Codd) showed positive results. The concentrations used in this study were 125, 250, and 500 ppm. Ciprofloxacin as the positive control and aquadest as the negative control. The highest zone inhibition of 96% ethanol extract against Staphylococcus aureus was 10.3 mm at a concentration of 250 ppm. The acetone extract of piladang leaf has the highest inhibition zone against Pseudomonas aeruginosa at a concentration of 250 ppm, which was 9.55 mm. The study revealed that Solenostemon scutellarioides (L.) Codd possessed antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Keywords: Antibacterial activities, piladang leaf, agar diffusion method, extract. [Full Text Article] [Download Certificate] |
