PEMPHIGUS VULGARIS – AN OUTLOOK THROUGH AYURVEDA

. Abstract Ayurveda is the oldest medical science which has described various dermatological manifestations under the heading of Kushta, Visarpa, Sheetapitta, Kshudra roga etc. Blistering disorders are a group of diseases presenting with vesicles and bullae over skin and mucous membrane. Pemphigus describes a group of chronic bullous eruptions of the skin. Pemphigus vulgaris, Pemphigus foliaceous, Pemphigus erythematosus and Pemphigus vegetans are the main variants of pemphigus were, Pemphigus vulgaris is the commonest one. Pemphigus vulgaris is a life threatening autoimmune mucocutaneous blistering disease with a mortality rate of 5-15%. Mortality in patients with pemphigus vulgaris is three times higher than the general population.
