MANAGEMENT OF ARDITA (BELLS’S PALSY) THROUGH AYURVEDA PROTOCOL-A CASE STUDY

. Abstract Ardita is considered as a Vata Vyadhi according to Bruhatrayi. It has been enlisted among eighty types of Vataja Nanatmaja Vyadhis. It is caused by aggravation of Vata. Based on clinical symptomatology it can be correlated with the disease ‘Bell’s Palsy in modern texts. Present case, male patient aged 34 years having history of deviation of mouth to left side, incomplete closure of right eye, asymmetry of face since last 7 days was registered in our OPD. Complete history and clinical evaluation lead to the diagnosis of facial nerve paralysis i.e. Bell’s palsy. Considering the signs and symptoms, patient was treated on the line of Ardita. Nasya Karma with Anu Taila, Akshi Tarpana with Go- Ghrita, Local Snehana and Nadi Swedana were done along with oral drugs and facial exercise. Before starting the treatment, the House Brackmann’s grading of facial nerve was Grade 4 and after commencement of 28 days’ treatment it reduced to Grade 2. There was no side effect observed during and after the treatment. Therapy gives significant relief in symptoms of Ardita. Keywords: Ardita, Akshi Tarpana, Anu Taila, Bell’s palsy, Nasya.
