SIGNIFICANCE OF JALAPANA ACCORDING TO AYURVEDA

Abstract
Ayurveda is a science of life. The purpose of Ayurveda is not only
relieving the diseases but also maintain healthy lifestyle of healthy one.
Water is essential for all living systems. The ancient science of
medicine considered water as life for each and every living organism.
Jala Mahabhuta is one of the Mahabhuta out of Panchmahabhuta.
Water has ability to treat various diseases. The ancient literature of
Ayurveda explored importance of water along with property. Jalapana
means intake of water in proper quantity causes healthy bodily work.
But intake of water in wrong way, time, place, etc. causes diseases
also. So that, water has importance in Nidana as well as Chikitsa.
Various researchers investigate role of water in different diseases like
in constipation, gastric burn, acute toxicity. This article summarizes
Ayurvedic perspective of intake of water, contraindication of Jalapana,
rules of water intake, etc.
