SNEHA KALPANA: A CRITICAL REVIEW

Abstract
Various Dravya are used in the preparation of medicines, which are
used in the form of different Kalpana. Like Panchvidh Kashaya
Kalpana (Swarasa, Kalka, Kwatha, Hima, Phanta), Vati, Guggulu
Kalpana, Asav, Arishta, Syrup, Sneha Kalpana, Guda Kalpana etc.
Out of these, Sneha Kalpana occupies an important place. This Sneha
is mainly of four types - Ghrita, Tail (oil), Vasa (fat), Majja (marrow),
out of which oil is obtained from Sthawar Dravya and Ghrita, Vasa
(fat), Majja (marrow) obtained from Animals. In order to make
medicated Ghrita, oil, Sneha Murchana is necessary, after that Sneha
is cooked using various Kalka, Kwatha, medicines and other Dravyas.
On the basis of Pak, Sneha becomes of three types with Mridupaka,
Madhyapaka and Kharpaka. Of these, Mridupaka Sneha is instructed
to be used in Nasya Karma, Madhyapaka Sneha in drinking and
Kharpaka Sneha in Abhyanga.
