Abstract
We studied the phytochemical constituents and antiproliferative
activity of methanolic extract of Murraya paniculata leaves (MEMPL)
on breast carcinoma cell line. The MTT assay showed, MEMPL
significantly inhibited cell growth in a time and concentration
dependent manner in the MDA-MB-231 cell line. In morphological
study fluorescence microscopy images of MEMPL treated cells
showed several signs of apoptosis than control cells. The further
morphological study by confocal microscopy images showed
condensed chromatin and fragmented nuclei as apoptotic bodies in
treated cells than untreated control cells. The agarose gel
electrophoresis study showed degraded DNA bands in carcinoma cells
than control. These findings suggest that Murraya paniculata leaves
can be a potential anti-carcinoma therapeutic agent in future.
