DESIGN, CHARACTERIZATION AND ANTIMICROBIAL ACTIVITY OF SOME NOVEL SUBSTITUTED 1,5-BENZOTHIAZEPINE DERIVATIVES

Abstract
A new series of 1,5-benzothiazepine derivatives were synthesised from
various chalcones of 2-acetylpyrazine. Chalcones were prepared by the
reaction of 2-acetylpyrazine with various aromatic and heteroaromatic
aldehydes in the presence of ethanol and 40% NaOH followed by
acidification with Hydrochloric acid. These chalcones were refluxed
with 2-aminothiophenol in the presence of methanol and piperidine to
get 1,5-benzothiazepine derivatives. Finally, the structures of all the
various synthesized compounds were confirmed on the basis of IR and
1H NMR spectral data and these compounds were screened for their
antimicrobial activity.
