vegetables that are available in market are packed with chemicals. The
quantity of nutritional components has fallen to a greater extent. This
malnourishment produces many health hazards in body and Pandu
roga is one of them. It is the most common disease found in upper as
well as lower socio- economic group. Almost every Ayurveda text has
described Pandu Roga with its own pathogenesis and treatment. It can
be correlated with Anaemia in modern science. Estimated nine out of
ten anaemia sufferers live in developing countries, about 2 billion people suffer from anemia.
It causes reduced learning ability and work capacity. It compelled W.H.O to declare it as a
Global Health problemAccording to WHO Global Database on Anaemia- “Worldwide
Prevalence of Anaemia 1993-2005, it affects 1.62 billion people which correspond to 24.8%
of the population.[1] Aim & objectives: 1. To classify the Pandu Roga according to GBP. 2.
To diagnose the Pandu Roga according to clinical features, CBC and Dosha. 3. Analysis of
subtype of Pandu Roga according to GBP. Material & Methods: In this study 60 patients
fulfilling the inclusion criteria of the study were selected from Ayurved College and Hospital,Indore (M.P). Patients were allotted in a single group and blood samples were collected for diagnostic study, to classify the Pandu Roga according to GBP and CBC. The symptoms of four types of Pandu viz. Vataj, Pittaj, Kaphaj and Sannipataj were assessed in each patient. We have also tried to establish a correlation between the three types of Pandu Roga with and findings obtained by examining GBP and CBC. With the help of proper statistical tools the result is interpreted. Conclusion: General blood picture analysis showed that among subtypes of Pandu Roga Maximum patients having Vatika Pandu Roga shows Microcytic Hypochromic pattern, followed by Paitika Pandu Roga and Kaphaj Pandu Roga. Normocytic Normochromic pattern is found in maximum patients in Paitika Pandu Roga, followed by Kaphaj Pandu Roga and Vatika Pandu Roga. Macrocytic Normochromic pattern was found in Paittika and Kaphaj Pandu Roga. Finally it may be concluded that GBP examination can be used as a tool for assessing the prognosis and differential diagnosis of Anaemia to plan the treatment. This test is very cost effective and may prove to be a useful technique in the field. Ayurveda the oldest Indian system not only emphasized treatment of various health hazards but also elaborated the diagnostic approaches for analysis and differentiation of diseases.
