STUDY THE ROLE OF VISHWADYA GUGGULU (DWITIYA) IN THE MANAGEMENT OF GRUDHRASI - AN EXPLORATORY STUDY

Abstract
Grudhrasi (sciatica) is one of the most common diseases occuring under 45 yrs. of age. It is usually manifested as low back pain. Its prevalence ranges from 11 to 40%. It is characterized by radiating pain along the back of thigh, low back pain, stiffness, tingling and numbness, altered gait resembling that of vulture etc. A simple exploratory study and drug trial was conducted. 30 clinically diagnosed patients of grudhrasi with an object of clinical evaluation of the efficacy of vishwadya guggulu (dwitiya) in the management of grudhrasi were studied. Single group of clinically diagnosed patients consisting of 30 patients was made. Trial drug i.e. vishwadya guggulu (dwitiya) was given orally in the dose of 500mg BID with lukewarm water. Bhaishajya kal (drug administration schedule) being VYANODAN (after lunch & after dinner). Follow ups were taken every seven days, totalling upto 30 days duration. The trial drug was found to be more effective in vat-kaphaj grudhrasi. No adverse effect was noted in any of the patients during the study period.
