Abstract
Siddha medicine is one among World’s oldest medical systems. It
originated in Southern Part of Tamil Nadu and Kerala more than 3,000
years ago. It is one of the States’ official Traditional health care
systems. Siddha medicine serves both Therapeutic and Prophylatic
concepts and hence Holistic in nature. Siddha is the oldest healing
system of medicine, and it has fundamental aspects for drug
formulation. Major formulations used in Siddha are based on herbs.
Psoriasis is an inherited papulosquamous disorder with a variable
clinical spectrum. In Siddha system of medicine, it is compared with
Kalanjaga padai which has the symptoms like silvery scale, itching,
pinpoint bleeding, nail manifestation and arthritis in chronic condition. In many of the
dermatological problems along with internal medicines, external medicine plays an important
role. This present paper review and analyse the therapeutic value of a Siddha polyherbal
formulation Narseeraga thylam for external application which possess anti-inflammatory,
anti-pruritic and anti-psoriatic activity for the management of Kalanjaga padai (Psoriasis).
