Abstract
Auricular keloid is a rare benign, dermal, non-contagious, fibroproliferative
growth characterized by excessive formation of collagen,
without any malignant potential. It has much more psychological
impact on the patient due to cosmetic and aesthetic reason. Various
treatment modalities like pressure therapy, intralesional steroid
therapy, cryosurgery, radiation, laser therapy, surgical excision and
superficial external beam radiotherapy (SRT), but it’s economically
costly and not so much promising. It was always a challenge to a
surgeon due to high relapse rate because of frequent invasion to
adjacent normal dermis. So comparative to all this Ksharasutra and
Agnikarma are the potential therapies mentioned in Ayurveda for such conditions which is
cheap and have best result with minimum injury. Ksharsutra have property of incision,
excision, debridement, scrapping along with aerostatic, antiseptic and healing, while use of
Agnikarma after excision is considered to be effective in avoiding the relapse in conditions of
benign outgrowths such as Auricular keloid. Present case of 32 years old female patient with
chief compliant of growth on Left ear helix for two years is a successful example of Auricular
keloid treated by Ksharasutra ligation followed by Agnikarma. For better further healing of
wound Lekhan karma of granulation tissure was done by Triphala Churna and Jatyadi
Ghruta Pratisaran was done.
