REVIEW ON CLINICAL MANAGEMENT, PREVENTION AND CONTROL OF DENGUE AND CHIKUNGUNYA

. Abstract The very first cases of dengue were proven in India in the 1950s. Approximately 2 lakhs of dengue cases reported in 2019. The mortality rate of Dengue in India is less than 1%, but the morbidity rate is high. Chikungunya was first reported in the 1960s. Both diseases are currently incurable and should be treated symptomatically with effective management strategies. Both are threat for community, nation and healthcare system and have the potential to cause an epidemic, so correct management and prevention is essential. Many report suggested that most of the casualties and hospitalization is due to inadequate treatment of disease. It is also hard to distinguish most of the arboviral diseases because they show similar symptoms. National authorities, such as the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (under the National Vector Borne Disease Programme), as well as international authorities, such as WHO, had issued guidelines for clinical management, prevention, and control of Dengue and Chikungunya in India. In this review article, insights from latest guidelines as well as recent scientific literatures about diagnostic approaches, clinical management, differential points, prevention and control of Dengue and Chikungunya are elaborated.
