Abstract

AN AYURVEDIC MANAGEMENT IN DENGUE FEVER WITH SPECIAL REFERENCE TO KEETAVISHA- A REVIEW

Abstract

Dengue fever is the mosquito borne infectious tropical disease. It is transmitted by female mosquito of aedes aegypti species, characterized by high grade fever, skin rashes, headache, muscle and joint pain. In recent decades it has become a major international public health concern. Globally it is endemic in more than 100 countries. WHO recently estimates that there is may be 50 million’s dengue infections worldwide every year. In Ayurveda, Agadtantra which is the part of Ashtang Ayurveda described the origin of Visha and Keetavisha. Agadtantra also explained several types of Keetavisha. Acharya had described different creatures responsible for life threatening situations. Mosquito (Mashaka Dansha) is one of them mentioned by Acharyas under Keetavisha. As dengue is caused by Mashaka dansha (Mosquito bite). Different modes of administration of medicine has also been explained under Keetavisha Chikitsa. so we can think about the management of Keetavisha while treating dengue. Till date there is no specific treatment available for dengue, but appropriate medical care can save the life.
