Abstract

LITERARY REVIEW OF PARIKARTIKA (FISSURE IN ANO) IN AYURVEDIC ASPECT

Abstract

Parikartika is one of the most common disease of ano-rectal region. Parikartika can be compared with fissure in ano on the basis of clinical features. It is a very painful condition. In Ayurved samhita, the disease Parikartika is described in different places. It describe as complication of vamana-virechanavyapad[1] vastikarmavyapad[2] and as garbhinivyapad.[3] Parikartika means parikartanavatvedana around gudapradesh. and complication of some diseases like Arsh Atisar, Grahani. The first reference of the disease Parikartika is presented by Sushruta Samhita. It is explained as the vyapad, updrava, purvaroopa etc. of various diseases. It has symptoms like pain, burning, sensation, bleeding per rectum, constipation etc. Health of an individual depends upon his diet, environmental condition and lifestyle. Anorectal diseases like fissure in ano, hemorrhoid etc. could be considered as a problem originated from bad food habits and improper lifestyle. According to modern texts the secondary factors responsible for disease are Crohn‟s disease, tuberculosis etc.
