Abstract
We have evaluated the anti-glioma effect of Trichosanthes dioica
leaves in our previous paper. Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the third most
frequent malignancy and the fourth leading cause of death from cancer.
Therefore, we studied the effect of methanolic extract of Trichosanthes
dioica leaves and its fraction (METDL, EFTDL & BFTDL) on
colorectal carcinoma cells. The extract and its fraction significantly
inhibited cell viability in a concentration dependent manner in HCT
116 cell line. Confocal microscopic study showed nuclear
fragmentation in EFTDL treated carcinoma cells than control. Cell
cycle phase arrest was observed in the G0/G1 phase in the EFTDL
treated cells. These findings suggest that Trichosanthes dioica leaf can
be a potential anti-carcinoma therapeutic agent for colorectal
carcinoma.
