Abstract
Rasa Sastra literally means “The Science of Mercury”. It is a
specialized branch of Ayurveda dealing mainly with materials which
are known as Rasa dravyas. Pharmacopeia of ‘Ayurveda’ comprises of
drugs derived not only from herbs but also from minerals, metals and
animal products. In Ayurvedic classics herbal and herbo-mineral
fertility agents are explained in detail. A herbo-mineral compound
Kamadhenuh is enumerated as Shukra vardaka in Bhaishajya
Ratnavali, so it can be inferred that it increases Shukra. In recent times
Ayurveda has obstacles in its way to provide quality treatment because
of the unavailability of safe and efficacious drug. So there is a need for
standardization of Ayurvedic drugs at various levels starting from the selection and collection
of raw material to the final product. Therefore an attempt has been made in this study to
standardize the method of preparation of an important and efficacious herbo-mineral
preparation i.e Kamadhenuh. The detailed Pharmaceutical study of Kamadhenuh will be
discussed in full paper.
