Abstract
Background: This review was aimed at the evaluation of the local
drug delivery efficacy, within the treatment of peri-implantitis, as an
adjunct to the non-surgical periodontal therapy. Materials and
methods: The databases were searched from 1995-2019. The inclusion
criteria considered all levels of obtainable evidences. Controlled
clinical trials with over 3 months of follow up and also the articles in
West Germanic language were included for the review. Results: The
literature search yielded ten articles for meta-analysis after applying
inclusion and exclusion criteria. The analysis of the chosen articles
showed that there was significant reduction within the pocket probing
depth and bleeding on probing sites, clinical attachment levels gain and
improvement in plaque index scores in patients with peri-implantitis.
Conclusion: Local drug delivery, when used as an adjunct to non-surgical therapy, proved to
be an efficient method in reducing peri-implantitis.
Keywords: Local Drug Delivery, Peri-Implantitis, Non-Surgical Therapy, Probing Pocket Depth, Clinical Attachment Level, Bleeding On Probing.
