EFFICACY OF DIODE LASER AS AN ADJUNCT IN TREATING PERI-IMPLANTITIS OR PERI IMPLANT MUCOSITIS: A META-ANALYSIS
Dr. Sayana Nazrine and Dr. Shivaprasad B. M.*
Abstract
Background: This meta-analysis aims to evaluate the efficiency of
using diode laser therapy as an adjunct in treating peri-implantitis or
peri implant mucositis. Materials and methods: The authors
systematically searched various databases including PubMed/Medline,
Google Scholar and Science Direct to analyse various articles
available. After extracting data and assessing the quality, a metaanalysis
was performed. Results: The literature search yielded seven
articles for meta-analysis after applying appropriate inclusion and
exclusion criteria. The research of the chosen articles indicated that
there was reduction of probing depth and bleeding on probing
compared to the initial values with additional use of diode laser, but no
statistically significant changes were achieved when compared to other
treatment modalities such as conventional therapy or localised drug
delivery. Conclusions: Diode laser as an adjunct for treatment for peri-implantitis or peri
implant mucositis did not yield any additional benefits when compared with other treatment
methods.
Keywords: Diode Laser, Peri-implantitis, Peri implant mucositis.
