Abstract

FORMULATION AND EVALUATION OF HAIR CONDITIONER CONTAINING HIBISCUS MUCILAGE AND VITAMIN E.

Abstract

Hibiscus rosa-sinensis is an evergreen shrub or small tree which are traditionally claimed as hair tonic in traditional and folklore medicine. It is contained with chemical constituents such as Compestrol, Cholesterol, flavonoid, stigmasterol etc. Flavanoids among these are responsible for conditioning property, After being rinsed thoroughly they make the hair easier to comb, frizz free, soft feeling, reducing static changes, improves shining and protects hair from future damage. The purpose of research is to get formulation of hair conditioner with hibiscus and vitamin E. The formulation is done using Hibiscus mucilage, Vitamin E, SLS, glycerin, sodium benzoate, HPMC, brilliant green, Lemon grass oil, and water. The physical evaluation, washability, irritancy test, pH determination, conditioning effect, viscosity, microbial stability testing, stability at room temperature etc. are checked. The conclusion obtained was that formulation made with hibiscus mucilage and Vitamin E met the requirements of hair conditioner.
