Abstract
Hepatoprotective effect of shushka mulaka churna(SMC) was
investigated against paracetamol induced hepatotoxicity in wistar
albino rats. It was compared with silymarin, a standard
hepatoprotective reference drug. The administration of paracetamol
resulted in elevated levels of liver marker enzymes and damage to
hepatic cells. It was reversed by treatment with the test drug shushka
mulaka churna (SMC) as observed in Therapeutically Effective
Dosage (TED) group. The histopathological finding of SMC in TED*2
group shows damage to hepatic cells. The experimental study revealed
that the test drug shushka mulaka churna possesses hepatoprotective
activity in therapeutically effective dosage, but can cause detrimental
changes to hepatocytes when given in double dosage.
