CEREBRAL PALSY IN PAEDIATRICS - A CONCEPTUAL STUDY

. Abstract Cerebral Palsy is a group of disorders which affects normal movements in different parts of the body. It causes difficulty in normal physical growth, mental behaviour and mainly neurological expression. Cerebral palsy has symptoms of various etiological factors and severely ranging from minor incapacitation to total handicap. According to World Health Organisation (WHO) estimation, 10 % of the global population has some form of disability due to different causes. In India, this prevalence is 3.8 % of the population. Nearly 15- 20 % of the total physically handicapped children suffer from cerebral palsy. In India, the estimated occurrence is around 3 per 1000 children live births. But in view of India as a developing country, the actual figure may be higher. Despite the regular advancements in medical science, there is increasing prevalence of cerebral palsy which is a point of concern. So present study is an attempt to conceptualize the cerebral palsy and help in its prevention. Health of body totally depends on mind health. In Ayurvedic texts certain medications prescribed for mental health and to treat underlying diseases such as Jadatva, Mandhbudhitva in Ayurveda some drugs more effective in borderline MR children with the use of Sawardhan ghrita and Medhya Rasayana.
