Abstract

COMPARATIVE STUDY OF THE EFFICACY OF MAKKALLAHAR YOGA AND STANDARD ANALGESIC (COMBINATION OF PARACETAMOL AND DICLOFENAC SODIUM) IN SUTIKA MAKKALLA

Abstract

Background: This study is designed to find out safe, effective, natural alternative to analgesics, (it is intended to overcome induced certain side effects in mother) in patients. Ayurvedic alternative to modern medicine has become essential in twenty first century for patient health and it’s the need of the hour. As per modern science sutika makkala condition can be correlated to after pains. Trial and control group of sutika patients having sutika makkala after delivery were made. Acharya vagbhatta said makkalla shool can be cured by makkallahar yoga (trikatu, trijata, dhanyak with purana gud). Aim: Comparative Study of the efficacy of makkallahar yoga and standard analgesic (combination of paracetamol and diclofenac sodium) in sutika makkalla. Methodology: 40 patients were recruited in this study and all the patients completed this study successfully. In control group Tab Xeroflam (combination of Diclofenac sodium 50 mg and Paracetamol 325 mg) was given twice a day for 4 days. In trial group churna made of trikatu, trijata, dhanyak and purana Gud was given twice a day for 4 days (1 gm). The study was conducted was conducted in Bharati Ayurved Hospital during 2019 -2021. Results: In trial group analgesic effect is 83.3%, optimum digestive power in 61.76 % of patients were observed. In control group analgesic effects is 87.88 %, optimum digestive power in 13.16 % of patients were observed. Conclusion: Comparison of efficacy of this makkallahar yoga with standard analgesics prescribed after delivery is done. Suggesting that Ayurvedic formulation is effective in mild form of sutika makkala unlike modern medicine which has good analgesic effect. Its analgesic and anti-inflammatory action proved in this study. Improved digestive power and lochia discharge was observed. Thus Ayurvedic formulations proved to be safe, effective, natural alternative to analgesics prescribed in modern medicine in management of mild form of sutika makkala.
