A CASE STUDY ON SWAPNA VIPARYAYA

. Abstract A young female patient aged 38 years was admitted to SDM hospital for the complain of severely disturbing dreams associated with Sour eructation, burning sensation in epigastric region, severe headache in temporal region of right side in the last 5 years. It was revealed by the patient and the informant (husband) about underlying emotional trauma as its cause and due to prolongation of these symptoms her physical health and personal life was detoriating day by day. This emotional stress leading to the development of the unique symptom i.e., disturbing dreams resulted as nightmare disorder. The root cause for all these physical and psychiatric ailments are stress or worries about future of her son who was diagnosed with Autism. This anxious state of mind which lead to the development of bad dreams (swapna viparyaya) and nightmares is diagnosed in Ayurveda as Chittodvega. For acute management, sadyovamana and to reverse the chronic etiopathogenesis snehapana followed by virechana were carried out which shown encouraging result. Shamana aushadhi has resulted cessation of recurrence of symptoms and stabilization of mental health.
