CONCEPTUAL REVIEW ON RAKTAPRADARA

Abstract
Ayurvedic Science has given prior importance to health and hygiene of
women. After menarche a women may suffer from different
gynaechological disorders as like raktapradara. Raktapradara is a
condition in which there is excessive flow of menstrual blood, either in
quantity or in duration. It is a symptom of various yoni vyapads and
artavadushtis. It is a raktapradoshaja vyadhi due to pittavritta apana
vayu causing the vitiation of rakta dhatu. In modern science, we can
consider raktapradara as Abnormal Uterine Bleeding. Ayurvedic
science has given a great contribution in management and treatment of
raktapradar by using different formulations which are rich in Kashaya
rasa and Tikta rasa because both of these rasas have the property of
astringent i.e., Stambhana guna in Ayurveda and by sodhan chikitsa.
