TREATMENT OF EKAKUSHTA BY BHRINGARAJA - AN OPEN LABEL SINGLE ARM CLINICAL STUDY TO INVESTIGATE THE EFFECT OF BHRINGARAJA ON EKAKUSHTA (PSORIASIS) AND ITS MANAGEMENT

Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the efficacy of Bhringaraja in reducing the
symptoms of Ekakushtha (Psoriasis) Design of Study: An open label
single arm clinical Study. Settings: SDM Hospital of Ayurveda,
Udupi, Karnataka. Sample Selection: 30 patients suffering from
Ekakushta/Psoriasis were selected for the study. Intervention:
Selected patients were treated with Sadhyo Virechana followed by
Bhringaraja Rasayana schedule. Main outcome measures: The
response following intervention was assessed before and after the
treatment by adapting the individual symptom score and PASI Score
Method. Further the changes observed by the completion of the
treatment were subjected to Wilcoxon signed rank test to know the statistical significance.
Results: The initial mean score for PASI prior to the treatment was 2.00 which reduced to
1.00 after the treatment with mean difference of 1.00. In the study group of 30 patients it was
observed that 3.33% of patients found complete relief. Maximum of 40% patients got
moderate relief. 16.66% patients had significant relief. And 26.66% of patients had mild
relief. And 13.33% patients had minimum relief. 0% of the patients had neither any benefits
nor aggravation from the treatment.
