Abstract
Badhirya occurs due to vitiated vata dosha or Vatakapha dosha by sanga in shabdavaha srotas.[1] This can be correlated to Hearing loss, which is characterized by impaired hearing loss.[2] It is most common sensory deficit, causing severe loss of productivity both physically as well as economically. As per WHO 2018 data, the prevalence of hearing impairment in India is around 6.3% that means 63 million people are suffering from significant auditory loss.[3] The estimated prevalence of adult onset of deafness in India is 7.6% and childhood onset is 2%. Management of hearing loss includes usage of hearing aids and surgical correction. Both are neither cost effective nor free from complications. Hence this case study was performed for management of Badhirya (hearing loss). In this study, three patients with hearing loss were treated with ksheera bala taila (101) nasya and karnapurana with different tailas. The treatment protocol included Nasya and karnapurana for 7 days with Sarivadi vati and Ashwagandha churna as oral medication. The taila used for karnapurana were Nirgundi taila, Bilwa taila and Sarshapa taila in three cases respectively. Tuning fork tests and audiometric tests were performed before and after treatment. The results showed moderate improvement in both subjective and objective parameters. The procedures nasya and karnapurana and oral medications would work as rasayana and Vatashamaka to alter the vyadhi Samprapti of Badhirya.
