Abstract

OPEN LABEL CONTROLLED CLINICAL STUDY TO EVALUATE THE EFFICACY OF GUDUCHIBALATAILA KARNAPOORANA AND ASHWAGANDHADYA GHRITA ORALLY IN THE MANAGEMENT OF KARNANADA (TINNITUS).

Abstract

Karnanada is characterized by perceiving different types of sounds in the ear like- Bheri, Mrudanga, Venughosha, Shankha etc. it can be correlated with tinnitus according to symptoms. Commonly, prevalence of tinnitus has been observed in approximately one out of every ten people. It affects both genders of all age groups but is frequently found at older age. Common treatment modalities for the management of tinnitus are nutritional support, antioxidants, reassurance, sedatives, antidepressants, vasodilators, maskers, electrical suppression. In Ayurveda classics many treatment modalities are explained in the management of Karnanada which are expected to give good results, Guduchibala Taila Karnapoorana and Ashwagandhadya Ghrita orally is one among them. GuduchibalaTaila having Vatahara property and Ashwagandhadya Ghrita having Rasayana, Balya, Brimhana properties. These can prevent age related degenerative changes in the inner ear, thus helps in relieving the disease. So a study has been conducted with both the drugs and BilvaTailaKarnapooranais taken as control group. The objective of research was to compare the effect of Guduchibala Taila Karnapooranawith Ashwagandhadya Ghrita Orally and Bilva Taila Karnapoorana with Ashwagandhadya Ghrita orally in the management of Karnanada (tinnitus). In the present study total 40 patients were registered and were randomly divided into two groups. Group A: Total 20 patients of this group were given Guduchibala Taila Karnapoorana (2 sittings of 7 days each with the gap of 7 days). Group B: Total 20 patients of this group were given BilvaTailaKarnapoorana (2 sittings of 7 days each with the gap of 7 days). Both the groups were given AshwagandhadyaGhrita orally (for 21 days). After the completion results showed that in Group A, 55% of patients got complete relief 30% of patients got marked improvement and 15% of patients have moderate improvement. In Group B, 5% of patients got complete relief, 5% of patients got marked improvement, 60% of patients got moderate improvement and 30% of patients having mild improvement. Significant results have been observed Group A compared to Group B in Tinnitus, severity index questionnaire and Discomfort by tinnitus through Visual analogue scale in Karnanada (Tinnitus).
