ROLE OF AGNIKARMA IN VATAKANTAKA (CALCANEAL SPUR)- A CASE STUDY

. Abstract Vatakantaka is one of the Vatavyadhi. It characterized by Shool (pain) and Shoth (inflammation) in Khudak (heel) due to Vayu. Consumption of Mityahara (unwholesome food), Ruksha- Sheeta Bhojana (food which is excess dry and cold in nature), Ratri Jagarana(awkening at night), Vishama Chesta (performing wrong activities) etc. can be considered as general Nidana for Vatakantaka. It can be correlated with calcaneal spur. It is a condition in which osteophytes (bone spur) are formed on calcaneal bone and is characterized by pain while walking, swelling and tenderness over heel region. For present study we have reported a 30 years male with the complaint of left heel pain mainly during early morning since 30 days and was diagnosed with calcaneal spur based on X-ray. Patient was unable to walk properly as it was painful, he was putting more pressure over right heel. Patient is not a known case of HTN or DM. And we had given him Agnikarma with Loha shalaka twice in a gap of 7 days. After treatment patient got relief from pain and tenderness and walking was improved.
