CELIAC DISEASE-A CASE STUDY
Dr. Sheetal Aggarwal Arora*
. Abstract GIT disorders constitute the major proportion of clinical cases in Pediatric OPD since ancient times. Relatedly, Celiac Disease also known as Celiac sprue or Gluten Enteropathy is an autoimmune malabsorbtion disorder that can affect both children & adults. Susceptible people develop small intestine inflammation upon ingesting gluten. In Ayurved texts, celiac disease has not been mentioned grossly but of the symptom similarity the best correlation i found is with Grahani Roga. Owing to the cause, environmental along with genetic factors play a significant role in pathogenesis. Global prevalence of CD is around 1%. In India, it is more prevalent in Northern belt as compared to other states with 1 in 96 individuals.[1] Similarity of symptoms with other diseases like Crohn’s disease, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Anemia, Lactose intolerance contributes to its delayed diagnosis and more complications. Recent researches indicates that both chronicity and acute occurrence of clinical features in CeD requires an integrative medical approach for a prolonged symptom free phase. Considering this, Ayurveda as a supportive management along with Modern medicine works well to disintegrate the disease. Hence in this study, we aim to gather the literary data on CeD(Grahani Roga) to create its awareness among private practitioners and medical students and plan stepwise directions for its prevention and management through Ayurveda. Keywords: Celiac disease, Celiac sprue, Malabsorbtion, Grahani roga, Gluten. [Full Text Article] [Download Certificate] |
