REVIEW ON MUCOADHESIVE BUCCAL DRUG DELIVERY IN DIFFERENT CLINICAL ASPECT

Abstract
Mucoadhesion is a situation in which two components, one of which is
biological in origin, are kept together by interfacial forces for lengthy
periods of time. Buccal mucosa, among the numerous transmucosal
routes, offers great accessibility and a relatively immobile mucosa,
making it ideal for retentive dosage form administration. The goal of
this study is to provide a clinical overview of the work done so far in
the field of mucoadhesive buccal drug delivery systems (MBDDS).
Starting with a brief overview of mucoadhesive drug delivery systems,
oral mucosa, and mucoadhesion theories, this article goes on to discuss
the work done so far in the subject of MBDDS, categorising it
according to the ailments it is intended to treat. We also look at the
numerous patents, current breakthroughs, problems, and future possibilities for mucoadhesive
buccal drug delivery methods.
