WONDERS OF GHRITKUMARI: A COMPREHENSIVE REVIEW

. Abstract Ayurveda is a traditional Indian system of medicine which aims to preserve health and wellness by keeping balance between body, mind and spirit and therefore preventing diseases. Ayurvedic herbs are important component of holistic approach. Ghritkumari is one such well-known herb used as medicinal plant due to presence of various phytochemicals. In Sanskrit, Ghritkumari meaning „young girl‟ which gives regenerating effects on woman health. It is also regarded as the plant of balance between tridosha. In our classics, ghritkumari is mentioned in vedas, samhitas & Nighantu. In Samhita, it is mentioned as single drug and also present in various classical formulation such as kumariasava. Acharya Shodhala introduced kumari in 14th century as kushtavinashini.
